Camping El Toro Azul was founded in 1962, when our grandfather, Enric Roca, decided to transform some farmland located right on the coast into a campground. That 500-kilo bull he kept on his farm would eventually give its name to this family-run campground in Catalonia, which still retains its warm, peaceful, and Mediterranean charm today. His bull— a bull that seemed to turn blue as the sun set and the sea’s reflection shone on its hide.
Opening Camping El Toro Azul was a pioneering decision for its time and made this site one of the first registered campgrounds in all of Spain. Its location, next to the old N-II highway and facing the Mediterranean, soon established it as a strategic destination for many domestic and international travelers exploring the coast. Since then, our campground has grown alongside tourism, the sea, and that relaxed way of traveling that has always characterized the Maresme Coast.
Today we are also part of the Barcelona Campground Association, a network that brings together campgrounds along the coast and in the interior of the province and helps introduce our surroundings to those looking to discover Barcelona and the Mediterranean from a different perspective.
After that initial phase, David Roca, our father, took over the management of the campground. He grew up witnessing the industry’s evolution firsthand and assumed leadership at a challenging time, with many challenges ahead. Together with our mother, Sílvia Xufré, he dedicated his entire professional life to caring for, adapting, and improving the campground, always keeping a very clear goal in mind: to make El Toro Azul a welcoming, friendly place that’s well-prepared to welcome you.
Today, as the third generation, we are working to continue on this path. We are Pol Roca and Albert Roca, Enric’s grandsons, and we have taken over the management of the project with a vision for the future, sustainable growth, and constant improvement. But, of course, without losing the family spirit that has always defined Camping El Toro Azul.
Management and important decisions are always made as a family, gathered around a table, after lunch and over coffee. Or in the evening, sitting outside in the cool air, always looking out at the sea. Conversation, shared experiences, and that personal approach to understanding the business are all part of our team and our family.
What sets us apart is our warm hospitality, our family-run business, and the connection we build with each of you every time you visit us. You might be coming for the first time as a couple, with your family, in a trailer, RV, or camper. Or you might be returning after many years—perhaps with your own children—reminiscing about the vacations you spent here when you were younger.
That generational continuity is one of the most special aspects of our history and one of the main reasons that drives us to keep pursuing this dream. For us, being a family-run campground in Catalonia doesn’t just mean offering a warm welcome to everyone who places their trust in us—it also means doing things with patience, care, calm, and attention to detail.
In recent years, we have implemented significant improvements, such as the renovation of the pool and the main entrance to the campground. These projects reflect the direction we want to take—toward higher quality, greater comfort, and a better blend of nature, relaxation, and the overall experience.
Our challenge is to continue innovating and maintain the quality of our facilities and create more enjoyable stays, without losing what makes us unique. Tradition, the natural surroundings, the architecture, the sense of community, and the peaceful atmosphere of the place are all part of who we are—and what we want to continue nurturing and embodying.
